One of the highlights of the Smart Country Convention (SCCON) in Berlin was the awarding of prizes to the most innovative cities in Germany as part of the Bitkom Smart City Index.
Cologne has once again achieved third place among Germany's most digitally advanced major cities in the latest Smart City Index 2024 published by the digital association Bitkom. With 83.2 out of a possible 100 points, Cologne ranks behind Munich (88.3 points) and Hamburg (86.2 points).
Cologne's top position in the "Digital Administration" category is particularly noteworthy. With 92.4 points, the city leads this segment for the first time, underscoring its successful efforts to create a modern and citizen-oriented administration.
The Smart City Index annually assesses the digitalization of major German cities in five areas: administration, IT and communication, energy and environment, mobility, and society and education. Cologne's consistent ranking among the top three demonstrates the city's continuous progress in digital transformation.
The Smart City Index serves as an important benchmark for cities to review and further develop their digitalization strategies. Cologne's renewed top ranking motivates the city to consistently drive forward its digital transformation and act as a role model for other municipalities.
