How ReCO2NWert contributes to the resource transition
The structural change project "ReCO2NWert" aims to convert carbon dioxide from industrial processes into new raw materials. This will reduce CO2 emissions and create renewable raw material sources. This innovative project is launching in the Rhenish mining region and is being carried out by leading research institutions and companies.
Goals and priorities
The project will utilize biotechnological processes to convert CO2-containing flue gases from the Weisweiler waste incineration plant into industrially usable products such as plastics. The participating institutions and companies are working together to advance the bioeconomy in North Rhine-Westphalia and promote a sustainable resource transition.
Promotion and cooperation
ReCO2NWert is funded by the German federal government with eight million euros and coordinated by CLIB. Participating institutions include RWTH Aachen University, Ruhr University Bochum, Fraunhofer IME and UMSICHT, as well as the companies MVA Weisweiler, Dr. Babor, Covestro Germany, and the nova-Institute. The project makes a significant contribution to the structural transformation in the Rhenish mining region, which is being supported with a total of over 14.8 billion euros from the federal and state governments.
