Professor Julian Koenig from the University Hospital of Cologne is the first German to be awarded the ISBM Award for groundbreaking research in child and adolescent psychiatry

North Rhine-Westphalia has once again underscored its role as a hub of innovation – this time in the field of medical research. Professor Julian Koenig, MD, from the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University Hospital of Cologne, has been awarded the prestigious "Outstanding New Investigator Award" by the International Society of Behavioral Medicine (ISBM). The award was presented at the 18th International Congress of Behavioral Medicine in Vienna.
The international jury recognized Koenig's pioneering work in identifying early biological indicators of disease risk in children and adolescents. The goal of his research is to develop new therapeutic approaches for those who do not respond to conventional treatments. With this award, Professor Koenig is the first German recipient – ​​a significant milestone for medical research in North Rhine-Westphalia.
This recognition demonstrates how scientific excellence from Cologne is gaining attention far beyond North Rhine-Westphalia and providing innovative impetus for the further development of behavioral medicine.
