State-of-the-art AI technology for environmental protection
A new era of flood protection is beginning in North Rhine-Westphalia with the launch of an AI-powered flood warning system, part of the AI.NRW flagship initiative. This advanced system uses artificial intelligence and modern sensors to detect impending floods early and provide more accurate warnings than previous methods. The project, initiated in the Bergisches Land region, is being funded by the Ministry with €2.8 million. It demonstrates the importance of combining science, industry, and government support for the development of innovative solutions.
The system not only enables improved predictions through the analysis of extensive data, but also informs at-risk companies in real time via a dedicated app. Following its successful implementation in the Bergisches Land region, the plan is to expand the system to the entire state of North Rhine-Westphalia. This will strengthen regional resilience and contribute to security.
